Sneak Peek

The exhibits team at the Institute of Texan Cultures has almost finished the installation of a exhibition called Foreign by Land, Native by Heart. The exhibit officially opens tomorrow and features the stories of four refugee families who have settled in San Antonio. Below are a few sneak peek images from the exhibit installation, come join us at the Winter Celebrations Around the World family day on December 11th to see this great new exhibit in person!

Our Part of Victory: Texans in WWII opens today! Here’s a few images from our installation and to give you a peek of what to expect.

We are in the final stretch of installing the new Los Tejanos exhibit for it’s big opening gala tonight. This exhibit explores the Tejano experience. It offering a glimpse of compelling Tejano stories from the early 18th century to the present day. It officially opens to the public tomorrow, but you can get a sneak peek of our progress below.

The Exhibits and Collections staff is busy installing Faces of Survival. This exhibit was developed and curated by University of Texas at San Antonio graduate students, taught by Dr. Kolleen Guy. The exhibit discusses topics of genocide and the holocaust.  The show officially opens on April 15th, but you can get a sneak peek of our progress installing it below.

Sneak Peek

The Exhibits and Collections staff here at ITC is just now putting the finishing touches on a new exhibit, “Sikhs: Legacy of the Punjab.” This exhibit was originally developed by the Smithsonian Institution back in 2004. ITC will be redeploying this as a temporary exhibit, with additional information about Sikhs in Texas, starting on February 21st.

The Exhibits and Collections staff here at ITC is keeping busy installing Patriots & Peacemakers. This is a traveling exhibit from the Arab American National Museum. It tells stories of heroism and self-sacrifice that affirm the important role Arab Americans have played in our country throughout its history from the American Revolution to the present. The show officially opens on January 24th, but you can get a sneak peek of our progress installing it below.

The Exhibits and Collections staff here at ITC is keeping busy this week installing the fifth annual Distinguished Artist Veterans art show. This exhibit is coordinated by VSA Texas, the state organization on arts and disability, and includes a wide array of artworks made by disabled American veterans from Texas. The show officially opens on November 6th, but you can get a sneak peek of what’s in store below.

We are currently in the midst of installing Modern Masterpieces by Texas Quilters, 1989-2010, and Texas Art Quilts, 1993-2011 in our temporary gallery. With the short holiday week we’ll be working right up to the opening on this one so I wanted to take a minute to share a few quick images of the behind the scenes action. Schoonover Farm Blog

This is the blog for our little farm in Skagit county. Here we raise Shetland sheep, Nigerian Dwarf goats, and Satin Angora rabbits. In addition we have donkeys, llamas, cattle, pigs, chickens, geese, ducks, peafowl and pheasants. The blog describes the weekly activities here.
